David Southwell is a member of the Audit Committee. Currently, Mr. Southwell is the Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Human Genome Sciences, Inc. Previously, he was executive vice president and Chief Financial Officer at Sepracor, Inc., a research-based pharmaceutical company, and also was responsible for corporate planning, development and licensing. During his fourteen-year tenure as CFO, Sepracor raised approximately $2 billion in equity and convertible debt financings, spun out two companies, and completed several in-licensing and out-licensing transactions. Prior to joining Sepracor, he was vice president, Investment Banking Division, at Lehman Brothers in New York. Mr. Southwell graduated from Rice University, and received his M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors of BioSphere Medical, Inc. and is a member of the board of directors at THL Credit, Inc., a business development corporation. Mr. Southwell also serves as Chairman of the Tuck School of Business MBA Advisory Board and is an ex-officio member of the Board of Overseers.
